The Bible and Global Warming

I can certainly understand why neo-pagans like Al Gore believe, despite overwhelming scientific evidence to the contrary, man-made, catastrophic global warming is the gravest threat to the planet.

What I can’t understand is why people who claim to believe in the Bible as the inerrant, inspired Word of God do so.

the Bible explicitly states: “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

It means God controls the world’s temperature, not man. God controls the climate, not man. God controls the earth’s “eco-system,” not man. God controls our environment, not man.

It is so presumptuous and haughty of believers and non-believers alike to think man is in control of the destiny of the planet God created for us.

Yes, there will come a time when the Earth is destroyed – and intense heat will be the mechanism God employs.

We’re talking about heat so severe it melts the very elements that comprise the Earth.

There are some who would say that “denial” is a river in Egypt.� Unfortunately most of those people are in fact living in denial (hope they don’t drown in it).

My grandfather had a saying, “It doesn’t affect me – affect me – affect me …”� He would use it when there was some self-denial going on.� The point being that we could claim something had nothing to do with us, when in fact its effects were profound enough to cause serious dysfunction to be occurring.� Denying the truth did not negate its effects.

�The greatest sickness of man is the fact that our sin has separated us from God.� Denying that reality does not negate the devastating effects of the separation.� Nothing can be truly right when we are denied the relationship with our Creator for which we were created.

There is great power in finding the relief of guilt coming from the forgiveness of God.� He will not offer that relief until we confess the sin.

Small Plant Give Hope

NEAR KARMAH, Iraq (August 19, 2007) – Without question,
the desert can be a barren, unforgiving place.

longing for “green” among Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines
personnel has been pacified with the chance growth of a tiny green plant.

The plant was noticed by Marines Aug. 14, following a
mortar attack on the base. In the confusing aftermath and struggle to get
protective gear on, a voice was heard the chaos: “Hey, is that a plant?”

“Whoa, there’s a plant growing over there!”

A small green stalk with two little leaves on top, the
plant has yet to be identified

Perhaps a sunflower or tobacco plant, as the ground of some living areas are
littered with. Maybe even a kool-aid plant, because it sprouted directly
beneath a box of powdered drink mix. More likely, however, it is a
watermelon vine, planted by a Marine discarding the seed while enjoying the
fruit (which locals here sell at marketplaces).

“That thing just gives me hope!” exclaimed one Marine.

I just miss green.”

She was bullied by her teachers, her principal, her school board and a federal judge. Not just any federal judge, but a Judge Samuel Kent – who hates prayer even more than the chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

Take a look at what he said about prayer at high school graduations:

And make no mistake, the court is going to have a United States marshal in attendance at the graduation. If any student offends this court, that student will be summarily arrested and will face up to six months incarceration in the Galveston County Jail for contempt of court. Anyone who thinks I’m kidding about this better think again. …

Anyone who violates these orders, no kidding, is going to wish that he or she had died as a child when this court gets through with it.

Letter to a Marine in Iraq

Son,

I preached on II Samuel 10 this morning. I drew parallels between their situation, what our fathers faced in 1776, and what we face today.

When Ammon doubled their army with mercenaries from Syria, David did not wait for the attack, he sent Joab and the army to Ammon.

Joab made it clear that he would not desert his comrades and they would not desert him. Joab called the army to be strong and courageous because even though in Ammon, they were defending their families and their homes. If the army of Israel was defeated, devastation would come to their homeland. While demanding that they be strong and courageous and committed to victory, he also acknowledged that it would be the Lord who would give victory. This combination of courage, commitment, and trust in God, is what is needed as much today as it was then.

If our fathers had been in for only an easy victory, we would not have a United States of America today. They were pledged and committed to winning Independence from the British redcoats, a seemingly impossible task. By God’s grace, and their courage, commitment, and sacrifice, they won the freedom that we enjoy today.

A final thing that I pointed out is what the naysayers would have been saying of the situation in David’s day. “If only David had used more wisdom in sending the delegation to Ammon.” “David should have known better than to intrude in the affairs of Ammon.” “David caused this war by sending the army to Ammon.” “The Ammonites are just peace loving people, and David has provoked this hatred towards us,” ignoring centuries of history of course. “If ‘President’ David would just bring the army home, everything would be great and the peaceful people of Ammon would just leave us alone.”

Even after the first defeat, Syria did not give up. They simply went home and raised a far more powerful army and came down to conquer Israel. Peace did come. It came with victory!

We pray for your protection. We pray for your victory. Thank you and your men for being strong and courageous, defending your families and homes!

I recently attended a showing of “Spiderman 3″ here at LSA Anaconda.

As is the custom back in the States, we stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem began before the main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the way through the National Anthem the music stopped.

Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first place.

Here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier stood at attention. Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was filled with the voices of a thousand Soldiers
